A fantastic pistol. Para Ordnance is underestimated and not given nearly enough praise for what they've done. They've brought the 1911 into the high-cap world at full scale. This is the single best feature about this gun. 1911 function and form, high capacity for ultimate firepower!

Many aftermarket parts that will fit any 1911 will fit the Para Ordnance P14 such as hammers, beavertail grips, sights, guide rods and springs, and even some barrels.

Only con really is its best feature. The capacity makes the grip very wide, and you almost HAVE to get a competent gunsmith who works on customizing pistols to take a bit of material off in the front strap. I also recommend getting some ultra-thin grips for the Para and ditch the factory ones. You can get a much better feeling gun in your hand then the stock "brick" you get. The gun has potential to be very comfortable in the hand, but I found out of the box it really isn't there.

The only other down-side is not the gun's fault at all, but I still see it as a negative. Due to the grip design and size, the grip panels are very specialized for the P14. Where single-stack 1911s have a whole assortment of options when it comes to grips: wood, synthetic black, mother of pearl, synthetic ivory, real mammoth ivory, etc. the Para really only has a very few options to choose from. And nearly all make the grip even WIDER and more cumbersome. Really the tactical ultra-thin grips in a basic black plastic are the only reasoble option.

As with many 1911s the P14 lives up to be a mid-upper range 1911 manufacture in terms of accuracy. I've put over 10,000 rounds through mine and I've never had a jam; not once. Even using CCI, Wolf, Sellier & Bellot, and countless other low-grade ball ammo. I've used various hollow points and it just eats them all up and is accurate with them all.

I would rate it about the same accuracy and quality level as a Springfield Armory 1911. It's not a Kimber, but then again, it's got 14+1, which is something most 1911's cannot boast.

Cleaning and breakdown is a snap for anyone familiar with 1911s, but a little more tricky than a Glock or Sig.

Recoil is pretty standard to a 1911 government, though the added weight of the extra rounds helps. I found that the small weight of a full length guide rod really helps both cycling and recoil a bit.

Capacity, Capacity, Capacity. That is the single distinctive feature that sets the P14 apart from all other 1911s. If you want the design, accuracy, reliability and enjoyment of a 1911, but don't want to compromise on capacity. Para Ordnance is the one you take home.
